To nickel or dime, that was the question

I was a nickeler but doubled down with Dots and Good n Plenty to get through the second feature.

Every town had its plaster and Paris art deco palace where in little downtown Santa Clara an usher would guide you with their cone flashlight into the dark womb of fantasy for 12 cents at Saturday matinee,

Love this! I, of course, remember going to Doc's for candy, what a treasure trove of brightly wrapped treats. I love Dots and black licorice (not that red stuff, that's not licorice!!). Wish I had grown out of candy craving but I still crave sugar and have to stop myself. My 3 year old granddaughter has developed it now after being given healthy treats..."give me a good snack, one with sugar!".

Some day I'll get to Catalina Island, my parents' courting spot. It's on the list.

Ah, fond memories. Since I came from Mobile, Alabama originally, a favorite was chasing madly after the candy thrown in the Mardi Gras parades. Talk about Kid Heaven! Peanut butter taffy is still my go-to. 😋

This was so enjoyable. Down on the corner we could by a sucker for two cents. We would open it at the counter, and look at the back to see if we won a free one. It was a joyful existence.
